Currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment project, Broadway Corridor’s unique site and centrality to downtown Portland encouraged my studio to envision a pragmatic utopia; one abiding by little in-terms of a realistic program, but to foster positive change for Portland’s residents and visitors. Upon first visiting the site, one looks out toward prominent, but fragile mountain ranges in the distance, while finding themselves directly downtown, acknowledging the impact of urbanity’s sprawl.
The Broadview Eco-Regions embraces the idea of utopia through an introduction of Oregon’s at-risk landscapes upon the site. These climates are self contained, which showcase the Cascade and temperate rainforest regions of the state. The intervention attempts to showcase these dramatic interventions to preserve, educate, and provide nature accessibility for urban residents confined by their immediate surroundings.
